MATI – The Jerusalem Business Development Center (JBDC) was established in 1991 to assist entrepreneurs interested in opening or expanding businesses in Jerusalem. The JBDC is part of the MATI (a Hebrew acronym for Entrepreneurship Development Center) network, with 25 branches throughout Israel, promoting business in their respective regions.
Since its establishment, the JBDC has assisted some 27,500 entrepreneurs, of whom 6,400 have established or expanded businesses, creating about 16,100 additional jobs in Jerusalem.
The JBDC also helped entrepreneurs obtain loans totaling NIS 101 million to set up and expand small businesses and conducted hundreds of courses and workshops in business entrepreneurship and management.
The JBDC staff includes professional consultants and economists, who help entrepreneurs assess the economic feasibility of opening or expanding a business. Consultants help entrepreneurs draft detailed business plans for feasible proposals, referring them, if necessary, to sources of convenient loans to finance the project.
The JBDC, host and founder of the Israel Franchise Promotion Center, offers an extensive range of supporting activities for potential and current small business owners. Entrepreneurs may receive expert consultation on topics such as import/export, food, franchising, etc., meet and exchange information with colleagues at the Business Club, obtain business data from sources such as D&B and BDI and register for any of the numerous small business establishment and management courses conducted. All service fees are subsidized. The JBDC’s consulting staff includes speakers of English, Russian, Arabic, French and Spanish.
